Love is in the air

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month! I’m kicking off the month with not one but two blog challenges. Our new challenge over at Crafty Boots has the theme “love is in the air,” whilst over at the Gecko Galz, the customer challenge is  “hearts and kisses.”  I’m sharing a little canvas that I created using some images from the Gecko Galz.

I started with a 4″ x 4″ canvas and gave it a coating of crackle texture paste. Once dry I added some more paste through a harlequin stencil. However, once this was dry it wasn’t very well defined so I chose another option of adding die cut pieces of card. I used Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlets die and applied torn pieces of the cuts to the canvas. When the glue was dry I painted over them using white crackle paint.

I can’t be too precise about the colours I used as I changed my mind halfway through making this!!! I started off with brown ink spray and bronze and copper acrylic paint. However, I decided I wanted to go more pinky so wiped off what I could with a baby wipe and opted for a combination of Candied Apple distress spray and paint combined with Picket Fence distress spray. I sort of just sprayed, painted and blotted until I was happy!

The love sentiment is from the Heart and Soul digital stamp set and the vintage photograph from the Romance Jewel It collage set. I’ve added in a little chipboard heart, plenty of vintage coloured paper roses and a scrap of coordinating lace.

I’ve add a few glimmer gold highlights using some well past its sell-by-date acrylic paint.

Hope you can find time to buzz over to both Crafty Boots and the Gecko Galz to check out the oodles of inspiration created by the respective design teams.

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. Wonderful Shabby Chic project, I just love all of the peeling paper and cracked varnish effects, it sounds like you had a lot of fun playing with your stash to create this canvass.

    Stay warm and dry.

  2. oh wow, love how you colored that and put it together with different techniques. Must have lots of patience to wait drying stages out. So pretty, love torn;paper on it also with vintage couple.
Must be arthritis today as typing is making my shoulder hurt. Been snowing off and on all day. Didn’ t go to physical therapy today as not going on roads out here, people are on their blasted phones. I don’t want to be one of their victims. Not taking that chance. Will go on Wed. afternoon so no big deal. Have wonderful week.

    • Thank you. I am not a patient person when it comes to waiting for stuff to dry so it was hard for me to back off!! Keep safe – phones and driving make me mad!!! x

  3. Wow Lisette, this is just stunning!! Your texture is amazing and I just adore the shabby chic feel to this with the soft colours and romantic flower arrangement! What a great combo of wet media and digital media, bravo! hugs 🙂

    • Somehow your comment got lost in my spam can. Thank you so much for your kind words – coming from the queen of shabby chic I am very flattered 🙂

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
