Count your blessings

Today has been one of celebration as it is my eldest son’s birthday. I cannot believe how quickly the years have flown. I look at all 6ft 3 inches of him and wonder what happened to the little baby that arrived three weeks earlier than he should have done!

It has also been a day of getting organised and those of you who are of a nervous disposition when it comes to Christmas had better look away now. Mr Beez has been busy putting up our outdoor Christmas lights!!!! Don’t worry, they are not officially switched on until 1st December but we, or rather I, decided we didn’t want any last minute panics about broken bulbs and all the usual fandango that goes with Christmas lights. So we, or rather Mr Beez and eldest son, have been busy with bulbs, ladders and sticky stuff. There were the usual disagreements about the best way to tackle the job but there wasn’t any sulking this year!

My role in the proceedings is to lie low and keep quiet until it’s all over! So I used the opportunity to do a little crafting:

This little heart is made of wood that I have covered with muslin. The little image is from The Graphics Fairy and I’ve popped it inside a bottle cap and topped it with an epoxy domed sticker.

I’ve added some little paper flowers and roses, plus a little crinkled seam binding bow.

I do count my blessings, I have a lot to be thankful for especially my family. I would like to dedicate this to all my American friends and followers and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. Oh my, outdoor lights up already, I am impressed. Please could I borrow your men? About 7 years ago my hubby announced that he thought that next year we should have outside decorations so I went out and bought some lights and even a couple of deer in the post Christmas sales. During the summer I even had an outdoor electrical point fitted and there it has all sat ever since, waiting my my husband to put them up!

Your little heart is so sweet – and I now realise much smaller, and therefore sweeter, then I originally thought.

    Dionne xx

    • Oh Dionne you have deer – I long to have deer. Having an outdoor socket is also fabulous. I wish I could lend you my men! If you’ve ever seen the Christmas film “Deck the Halls” with Danny de Vito, where he wants his Christmas lights to be seen from space, ours looks a bit like that!!!!

  2. The time does go so quickly. One day they are a tiny 4 pound bundle of joy and you blink they are 40. I can’t believe my baby is doing to be 43…where did it go. I am just putting the finishing touches on my decorating…scaled way back over the last few years due to health reason.

Your project is just adorable. Thanks for sharing.

    • Amazing isn’t it?! I bet you still worry as well, I certainly do. Lovely to know you’re decorating. I’m just panicking about the indoor Christmas tree lights – can’t remember if they need replacing and so far haven’t managed to find them!

  3. Happy Birthday to your son. May he live a happy peaceful and prosperous life. I know exactly what you mean when it comes to just “lie low”. I do the same thing if not there is too much fuss about nothing. Your project is quite nice I love the colours you used. Keep it coming.

    • Thanks Lesline. In a male dominated household I find lying low is definitely the best option. !Happy Thanksgiving, what are your plans?

  4. No lights up here yet, hubs is already growling about putting anything up. I have learned over 45 yrs. (as of 30th. of Nov,) just to listen, not comment. When I start getting things out and putting some up in house and out on front porch he changes his mind. Last year he made 3 trees out of tomato cages we had. Didn’t have real/artificial tree in living room, (just little table tree) so trees on the patio table sufficed. He got to put the mess away, even better.
Hubs puts a light strip under the front porch he can plug lights into. The first year we had our dear doggy Tommy he ate the cords, the lights, you name it he ate it. Hubs would line the front fences all around with lights but he hasn’t replaced lights dear doggy ate,. lol This happened soon after we’d gotten Tommy, we got him on Nov. 7th.,2009. He hasn’t eaten the lights since but hubs does make it a bit more difficult for him to. I also had knee replacement on 12/14 that year.
Was quite interesting Christmas that year. The following year we didn’t do much at all as hubs had a stroke on 10/19/2010 just days before his b/d (10/22). He just didn’t feel like looking at much of any decorations. I kept it very simple.
My oldest son will be 51 this year on 12/21 and he is 6’3 1/2″ tall. He was 8 1/2 lbs. when he was born. At 9 months he weighed 29 lbs. That same year I had a thyroidectomy in late Sept.. Wasn’t an easy time as I already had a 3 1/2 yr. old daughter and was pregnant for 3rd. Sounds like I did things to make life harder doesn’t it, lol. My oldest child (one of 3) is 53 already and youngest of the 3 will be 50 in May. I had 3 kids in 4 yrs. One good thing about that is I was quite young when they were in their teens. Our youngest, hubs and my daughter, is 43. Darn kids are making me old
I certainly hope your son had a great b/d and enjoyed time with his Dad putting up the lights. I’m looking forward to getting some of decorations out, keeping it simpler this year. Putting it all away is getting to be a bit much so trying to cut back, yeah right huh? lol.
    Happy week Mrs. Beez

    • I love the sound of the tomato cages – I saw some in the summer and thought they would look like trees if you wrapped them with lights. However, persuading Mr Beez is not easy!! I expect, like me, no matter how old your children are you still worry about them! I also find that I can’t pass myself off as being in my twenties (ha ha!) given that both my sons are now there (well I can dream I still look young can’t I?!). You’re right about putting the decorations away – getting them out seems so easy and then you just have this pile of stuff that has all got to be boxed up. Nightmare! Happy week x

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
