A splash of red take 2

When I saw this week’s theme at City Crafter Challenge Blog, “blue green and a splash of red,” I was torn about which way to go. Part of me wanted to do a classic layered card and the other part wanted to play with inks. I chose to do both – well, if you can, then why not?! You can check out what I am calling my classic style card here.

On a square of cardstock, I stamped the leafy pattern, using a stamp from Paper Artsy’s Squiggly Ink Flora and Fauna 3 set, then inked it with some of the new release distress inks – Twisted Citron and Mermaid Lagoon, and a couple of old favourites – Mowed Lawn and Tumbled Glass. I spritzed with water, blotted and then quickly stamped a little bit of text using the same colours. I wanted it to be a bit blurry.

Once the ink was completely dry I coloured the leaves with a green Polychromo and added a few white highlights.

I can’t remember where the heart stamp is from but I used Memento ink and then Promarkers for colour. Once it was cut out, I ran a black Stabilo All pencil around the edge, smudging it inwards and then added the white dots.

This is going to be an anniversary card for my brother and his wife who will be celebrating their 14th anniversary in a couple of weeks time. I dithered for a long time about whether to add a stamped sentiment but, in the end, decided to play safe and add that to the inside.

Thanks for buzzing by.

    • Thank you Lesline, you won’t be disappointed. Each time a new colour comes out I think it isn’t all that different to some of the others but it always is 🙂

  1. This is very different from your last card but still way cool. LOVE that leaf frame and was so happy to see my beloved white dots make an appearance. I never think of doing that, but putting them in really makes the leaves “pop.” Two fantastic projects!!

  2. You always seem to know just what to make to enhance your project the best way. Your talents with using inks is incredible. Did you take classes to learn how to do that or from experimenting? You seem to know just what to do to get special effects. I’ll have to look for those new inks.
So how is it in London? Hope not as hot as here, will be 103 degrees tomorrow and Tuesday. Has been in high 90’s and low 100’s for few days, unusual for this time of year here. We’ve been staying in cool house mostly. Try to keep hubs from being out in heat for any length of time at certain times of day, dangerous for him/us. Tomorrow is washing sheets day so will get those puppies up on line and off quick as i can.
Feel bad for son/grandsons in Palm Springs, out in desert, about 120 or more. Mike says he’s so glad to get home on Friday nights, goes out to pool at his complex to just sit in water,
Last Monday had to go to Grand Junction for jury duty but luckily didn’t get picked, boring day but was out of there by 3:30 in afternoon. Guy on trial was accused of child pornography, abuse, taking advantage of position of trust. From what prosecutor said would be some very bad photos and language. Rest of us had to listen in court room as prosecutor and defense attorney quiz jurors about attitudes, feeling about child abuse, etc. Benches in court room not comfy at all. Was on jury in 2008 but was for stealing, drugs. We found him guilty.
Hope much cooler for you all there. Have great week ok?

    • Wow those are some temperatures. It’s officially “a scorcher” if it hits 26C/78F! When we were in Seville it was 41C/105 but it’s different when you are on holiday. Last week it didn’t go over 21/70 – probably cooler where I am. We just get excited because it’s normally chilly and we get so much rain!!! Poor you being called again for jury service, I’ve always been thankful that I have never been called. One of my friends has had 3 goes! Have a good week and keep cool!

  3. Owwww, just look at the gorgeous background, the red heart tends to distract you for a while but the background gets into your consciousness and then it all you could look at.

I love the leaf stamp, it is so pretty and the white dots you have added are a great detail.

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
