This was the week that I planned to get ahead with my crafting and maybe even start some Christmas cards. With no nights away and no faffing about on trains I had a list of crafty things to do that I thought I would rattle off in no time. Instead, I seem to have found myself on the back foot and playing catch up. Maybe I work better when time is at a premium!
Today I’m sharing my project for this week’s Sunday Stampers challenge. The theme this week is to incorporate the word “special.” Not too difficult except if, in your head, despite singing fragments of The Pretenders Brass in Pocket, that word becomes something else entirely. Anyway, despite my best attempts to sabotage my own creativity I got there in the end:
This isn’t a Halloween piece, but neither is it not a Halloween piece. Those little girls have the ability to look both saintly and sinister.
Not only do I sometimes have the wrong word in my head when working on a Sunday Stampers project but, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m also quite capable of forgetting about the stamping. This week however it’s all about the stamping.
The background was created by first applying alcohol inks – silver, purple and aqua, to some glossy card. Once dried I used my new crackle and text stamps and randomly applied them over the top.
The little fairies are from the Tim Holtz Winged Things 1 set. I stamped them, then photocopied them to make them smaller. I pounced on some Iced Spruce distress ink, coloured their hats with Promarkers and then edged them with black. There’s a little bit of glitter on their wings and a blob for the pom-pom on their hats.
The words were printed on my computer and coloured in the same way as the fairies.
I’ve added black pom-pom trim and stripy ribbon across the bottom and placed a little black rose and some punched branches in the corner.
Once the fairies were in place I did some extra stamping around the top to frame the images a little more.
The finishing touch was to add a bow using some crinkly black seam binding.
I love these winged things and can’t wait to see what else I can do with them. I have another set of stamps, on a similar theme, that I want to get but I need to prove to myself that I will use them. Pah! Who am I kidding, it’s just a matter of time!
