Down where it’s wetter

I have two little makes to share with you today both of which use a fabulous mermaid stamp from Catslife Press.

Now there is a story behind this stamp. As you know, I’m not the greatest when it comes to the care of my ever growing stamp collection. However, this little mermaid mysteriously disappeared even before she was out of her little plastic bag. I searched high, I searched low, I even resorted to tidying to see if she would appear. In the end I came to the conclusion that I must have thrown her away still in the parcel’s packaging (I went through the dustbin just in case!). Reader, no one was more ashamed and disappointed than myself. Then, earlier this week, I went to get a wooden spoon from the kitchen drawer and there, as bold as you like, was my mermaid stamp tucked safely in her little plastic bag. I have no idea how she got there and she certainly wasn’t there in the two weeks that I searched for her. Needless to say I am now keeping my beady eye on her just in case she has any more tricks up her sleeve!

The first piece was created using Dylusions inks that I sprayed on to card. I’ve then stuck it to a chipboard house shape – cut using Tim Holtz’ Artful Dwellings Alterations die. I stamped the mermaid and then stamped a second on to card and added colour. You may be able to make out a touch of glitter on her diva red tail.

The flowers were stamped on to some of spare the Dylusion dyed paper and then over stamped with dots in Peacock Feathers before applying to the house shape. I’ve scribbled white gel pen over the centres.

For the second piece I used Distress inks – first applying a background and then adding the detail by stippling more ink through a swirly stencil. I’ve stamped then paper pieced the large flower and the mermaid. The flower is by Stampotique.

To finish, I stamped the border and then added the words.

I am sharing these over at Crafter Hoarders Anonymous for challenge #10, which is to get messy with inks, sprays, pastes etc, That’s Crafty Challenge Blog, All at Sea challenge and also over at Sunday Stampers where the theme challenge is green. That’s Crafty have the stamp, and lots of others by Catslife Press, available in their shop 🙂

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. Life is the Bubbles – The Little Mermaid! That takes me back, I use to have that song as my ring tone (I wish I knew how to get it back on my phone).

Two lovely tags, more gorgeous backgrounds and lovely effects. I adore your story of the magical stamp, perhaps she sold her sole for some legs and has been exploring your house … wearing nothing but a plastic bag.

    • I was trying to think where the song came from. I’ve never seen the Little Mermaid but we did a Disney themed production when I was teaching and this was one of the songs. As I was conducting (don’t laugh!!) I knew all the words. I am a bit spooked by the stamp episode – especially as I lost another just as she showed up. Maybe the borrowers are in residence!! xx

  2. Do you have lots of very colorful, busy dreams? Would think so with way you put so many embellishments and parts together. You just seem to know what to do each challenge then go for it. Or do you just look at inks, etc. and put them on with abandonment while you get what you wanted for your project? It never fails to amaze me how you can put things just so. Love Queen Bee and drama Queen, so cute. Always love what you do. Happy summer days, hope you’re getting to enjoy them somewhat anyhow.

    • I think quite often, especially with pieces like this, I end up portraying how I would like my world to be!!! Thank you for your lovely comments and happy summer Sunday x

  3. Great mermaids Lisette, I loved the border stamp on the blue one, I am also awful with my stamps, only the Stampotique ones I keep them in a drawer apart nicely arranged, the rest well I will need to think about a good system, or a better one then I keep them now, otherwise I’ll never find what I need 🙂

    • So glad it’s not just me. Strangely as the mermaid appeared I lost a heart!! Would love to know if you ever find your card. Thank you for your lovely comment.

  4. How fun is this? I love the great summery colors you chose and those retro flowers, too. It’s grand! Thanks for joining us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge 10!

  5. bhahhaaaa…. you know what I guessing? Mr B has decided that the only way he can get you into the kitchen is to hide your stamps in there ROFL LOVE your creations… I have that ickle mermaid somewhere in my stash too… maybe she has done a flit to the bathroom cos that needs attention now too lol Thanks for joining in with The Sunday Stamper x

    • I never though it was a devious plot!!!! Every room in my house needs serious attention and the spider population is getting away with murder right now. Would love to see you create with that stamp.

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
