Being negative

I don’t know what it’s been like for you but this week seems to have been a jolly long one and I’m quite glad to get to the end of it quite frankly. To kick start the weekend I’m buzzing by to share a card that I have made for this week’s challenge over at City Crafter Challenge Blog.Β The theme is “negativity” – using the negative space that you have once you have used a die and removed the die cut itself.

I’ve used circle and star dies to create my little moon card. I cut out my mats and layers in blue and cream and then die cut circles from two of them, one slightly larger than the next so that the aperturesΒ would create a little tunnel once they were layered over each other. Next, I used a star die to cut out stars from what would be the top layer.

I then stamped through the smaller circle aperture on to a third piece of card that forms the base layer. I used the New Moon stamp from Rubber Moon and paper pieced the main part of the image.

Each of the blue pieces of card has been edged with gold leaf pen. I used heat embossing for the gold stamped sentiment and added some further detail to the top layer using a gold pen. I used foam pads to raise each layer.

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. Very sophisticated card.

I really, really like this technique. It somehow seems to have more dimension than the conventional way of layering. The gold edging looks great, I have tried to do this but can never achieve an even application.

    Have a great weekend.

  2. Aww I love this.
Anything with moons and stars gets my imagination running wild.
I love how you used the negative. Genius!
    Have a lovely weekend x

    • Thank you – moon, suns and stars are a long time favourite of mine. Enjoy your weekend too – hope you get out and about with Poppy πŸ™‚

  3. I am with you completely on the length of this week. Your card is so lovely, it perked me up just stopping by. The gold leaf pen on all the edges are a fantastic touch. Truly glad you were able to join the City Crafter Challenge.

  4. I am in love with your card. Your chose of theme for the negative use challenge is perfect. My daughter calls me the Queen of recycling and I always keep the negatives knowing that someday I could put it to use. The moon is one of my favorite things and I can sit and watch it for hours. The colorway is gorgeous and the gold edging really is the perfect touch. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you Sandra, I really appreciate your comments. I have boxes of “bits” that I’m sure I could recycle and then I forget that I have them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
