If you buzz over here regularly you will know that I am a big fan of The Graphics Fairy and always join her Brag Monday party. You will also know that I love her butterfly images, in particular this one:
I also seem to be loving blue and white in my projects. It’s a combination that lends itself to both winter and spring projects. For today’s Brag Monday I decided to alter a little jar.
This started life as a small jar, from a set of four, that I found at IKEA. I began by covering the outside with white tissue paper. I did this fairly randomly and purposely made creases and overlaps so that there was plenty of texture. Then I gave it a coat of baby blue paint followed by a coat of Ranger’s picket fence crackle paint then topped it all off with a coat of clear crackle varnish which added gloss and texture.
I used a lovely Rose Cold Cream label, in blue, from the Graphics Fairy and cut two of the butterfly images. I gave all these a coat of clear crackle varnish too. It won’t surprise you that I layered up the butterfly images to add some dimension.
The fun with this type of project is adding all the embellishments and this is so so easy now I have my hot glue gun. I covered the lid of the jar with white crochet lace and topped it with an arrangement of blue and white bows, a little blue paper rose (Wild Orchid Crafts) and a tiny white pearl.
Around the lid I added buttons and gems.
I made another blue and white bow arrangement and added some scraps of lace and tiny white button.
At the bottom, I arraanged more buttons, scraps of lace and another blue rose.
I gave the buttons and flowers a coat of white paint, using a dry brush, and some chunky clear glitter. I also added some chunky glitter to the jar.
I’ve found the problem with this type of project is getting a decent photo, even on a sunny day like today. So I took several!
I tried, but the pics don’t really reflect what it actually looks like.
