April Showers

Very excited about the piece I’m sharing with you today as it is my first one for the Anything But A Card DT. The theme for Challenge #17 is APRIL SHOWERS”. Anything with a WATER theme including  mermaids, beaches, seas, the color of seas/oceans, thunderstorms,  rainbows, streams, rivers, ponds, snow, spring showers, umbrella,  fountains, waterfalls.  So here’s my interpretation:

I decided to go with April showers in the literal sense and create a little diaorama from an old jewellery gift box. Take a closer look

It’s a cute little fairy, courtesy of The Graphics Fairy, taking advantage of the rain and having a little bath in a flower! Can you see her economy size bottle of bubble bath, “Fairy” of course! She obviously came well prepared as not only did she have bubbles, but also a towel which is keeping dry under the toadstools.

I was quite surprised to see that fairies keep their wings on whilst bathing!

I used the base of a square jewellery gift box, glued on some Fantasy Film with PVA and then melted with a heat gun. Once the first layer was secure,  I added extra layers to create texture and dimension. Once the first layer is applied, you don’t need more glue as the film will adhere to itself. There are also some fantasy fibres in there too. The effect is great, just like a little dark and mossy hidden corner of a tree trunk would be.

The cloud is a piece of cereal box, painted with white acrylic and then decorated with doodles. The raindrops are a clear bead trim. I’ve stuck some moss to the bottom and sides of the box.

I coloured some wooden toadstools with Fired Brick distress ink. The bubble bath is two beads glued together. I glittered some butterfly wings and added them to the fairy’s back – both images are from The Graphics Fairy.

I added a few small blooms as the final decoration and popped some beads on the bottom of the box to help it stand up properly.

I love making these little scenes, it’s just a shame they don’t photograph particularly well. There’s still another week to go for the Anything But A Card challenge so you still have time to share something – just so long as it’s not a card!

I am also going to share this over at Crafty Boots for their recycle challenge.

Now I’m sure that once this little fairy is clean and dry she’ll be taking herself for a Sunday afternoon treat, which is just what Mr Beez and are going to do. We’re having afternoon tea, in a posh hotel, with my cousin and her husband. So – time for a shower 🙂
