Winter pocket

Here in the UK we have been experiencing a “weather bomb,” or to give its correct meteorological name “explosive cyclogenesis”. In reality that has meant strong winds, lots of rain with blasts of snow and hail and, most interestingly, waking up to rain dripping on to the bed!! We left a big plastic box underneath, to catch the drips, whilst we went to work yesterday, dreading what we would find on our return. Fortunately, it was bone dry, which is a huge relief and suggests it was a set of extreme conditions that caused the leak.

There is still some snow forecast but, just in case, I thought I’d share another snowy project with you today.

This is a little pocket hanging, made from an old toilet roll tube, that could be used as an ornament or for a small gift. Originally I was going to put some candy canes in it, but then thought it would look nice with a few sprigs of greenery and berries tucked inside. I’m sharing this over at City Crafter Challenge Blog where the theme is “glittering snowflakes.”

To make the pocket I first flattened the toilet roll by putting it through my Sizzix Big Shot. This makes it easier to cover and decorate and also works well if you want to turn your roll into a mini album. I covered the roll with paper (I used some from the Gecko Galz Mayflower paper pack) and inked the edges. I’ve used an image from the Snowbabies collage set and mounted it onto red card.

I’ve used a little red ribbon underneath the image and added lace, buttons and some organza rose trim to decorate.

To complete the pocket I’ve popped on a couple of glittery snowflakes and made a little handle from some candy cane cord.

Now today I am very excited because it is my last working day before Christmas. I have a lot to do before I can clock off, but the end of a hectic working year is now in sight!

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. You know we always have the same weather, the difference is there’s no snow or hail, hard winds, I think that I am going to fly away like Mary Poppins, and rain of course. I love seeing your snowy projects, they are so adorable. Those snowflakes are beautiful, and you always happen to have the perfect lace. It is a fabulous project!

    • Thank you. The lace is generally by virtue of Really Reasonable Ribbon’s Ribbon club which always contains and least one lace. I’m guessing in your part of the world you have a supply of the most beautiful lace too. Your description of Mary Poppins makes me long to see a journal page on that theme 🙂 Today we have sun and then snow a bit more sun and now dark skies and more snow!

  2. The weather outside is definitely frightful but it sounded a little rough in your bedroom yesterday as well. Fingers crossed it was the wind blowing the rain until the tiles.

Your little pocket is very sweet and think it will look lovely with a little greenery pocking out the top.

    Happy holidays.

    Dionne xx

  3. This is really sweet and well done, as usual! I love your little touches–the snip of red ribbon and the 2 red buttons and the red and white cording. Perfect!
I’m so glad that you have the next while off; how lovely for you. Make sure you enjoy it and don’t spend it doing housework or something equally dumb. Christmas on, girl!

    • Thanks Roberta and I shall certainly heed your advice on the whole housework thing. I have a trip to London which will take me away from any possibility of that 🙂 I really want to get my Christmas craft on – so many ideas and so little time. How are you doing? x 🙂

  4. Such a wonderful and gorgeous way to repurpose a toilet roll tube. It had a nostalgic look which I love for Christmas. A perfect gift wrap for a small gift. Thanks so much for joining us at CCCB!

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
