Layering it up

Back with my second post and my second project this month as a guest designer over at Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog. The current challenge#18,  is “Layer It” and you are asked to use at least three layers on your project. As usual there is some terrific inspiration from the resident DT and, if the last challenge is anything to go by, there will also be some fabulous pieces from my fellow guest designers. For my project I’ve combined two of my current favourite things – houses and Halloween and one thing’s for sure, there are plenty of layers:

The whole idea of Craft Hoarders Anonymous is to use up stash that you have been hoarding and for me this was a great opportunity to do just that. So let me take you on a tour.

I’ve used two chipboard houses and a little archway and covered them with paper and images from scraps box. I rarely throw any bit of paper away so it was just a question of finding the wodge that related to Halloween. The bat wings are a Tando shape that has been in my hoard for about two years. I painted it black and then added glitter.

That fabulous moon is a favourite of mine from The Graphics Fairy.

Once the houses and wings were all layered up I started adding the smaller details. In this corner are some tiny pumpkins (seed pods) and orange and black roses. You can just glimpse the little magic potion in a glass vial.

I found a great way to fill the vial with glitter was to add a big blob of glue gel and then shake in the glitter. It only sticks to the outside of the glue blob but gives the appearance of being solid glitter.

The wooden keyhole was from Artchix Studio who, sadly, no longer operate their fabulous shop 🙁

Many of the papers and the bingo image you will recognise from previous projects as being from The Gecko Galz. All the words are from a collage sheet I found at Lisa’s Altered Art over on Etsy.

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. I love the layered chipboard houses (and I may steal that idea) but I adore those teeny tiny pumpkins and the bottle of glitter (I mean potion)! This is adorable. Thanks so much for being one of our spectacular guest DT for October at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

  2. Wowsers, you’ve outdone yourself with this one!! Halloween AND houses–how great is that?! Love that moon face; I’m going to have to check out GF for it. I have a bunch of her images, but don’t think I have that one. I know what you mean about those pods–every time I order from Alpha Stamps, I get another bag of them. If I had the space, I’d use them with some sheet moss and vines and make my own little pumpkin patch 🙂

    • Thanks Roberta – the moon was the very first Graphics Fairy image I used so it has a special place in my heart!! I love the idea of a pumpkin patch – pleeeeeease make one 🙂

    • They are irresistible aren’t they (although I’m rubbish at estimating sizes!). Fortunately, you can get the vials quite easily over here so I can save my Alpha Stamps purchases for other fun stuff!! (I got the cutest little pumpkin pail which I’ve yet to use!) x

  3. What a wonderfully whimsical creation! I love every little detail, but those pumpkins make my heart sing! You MADE those? Shut the front door! Thanks so much for being our Guest Designer at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
