Sweet as honey

Good morning and Happy Monday! It really is a happy Monday as it is a Bank Holiday here in the UK so an extra day to relax and a shorter working week to boot. It’s also a happy Monday because today sees the launch of a new theme over at Crafty Boots Challenges. The new theme, chosen by yours truly, is Butterflies and/or Bees. Now you know me well enough by now to realise that, when it comes to crafting, bees and butterflies are my default settings. So it will probably surprise you, as much as it did me, that it took me ages to come up with my Design Team piece for this challenge.

I hope you’ll agree that it was worth the wait! I’m particularly pleased with how this card turned out and will be very reluctant to give it away so might just send it to myself. Or perhaps sell it to Mr Beez??!!!

I’ve used papers from My Mind’s Eye Sweetest Thing Honey collection. Now I have to tell you I was practically hyper-ventilating as I cut into these. It is the most gorgeous collection – far to pretty to use. The papers are double sided and you get two sheets but I would prefer a never ending supply! I’ve inked all the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink and used black card to create mats for all the layers. The diagonal striped paper that the sentiment is stamped on (and also runs across the centre of the card) is actually the border that each piece of paper is attached to.

I’ve coloured some seam binding with a Promarker  (Pink Lobster)and used it to make a bow. You will see a LOT of this colour. I’ve just been making my Gecko Galz Design Team samples for next month and this colour features so much that I had to give myself a talking to so I stopped using it!

The bee itself is stamped on to some of the paper and coloured with Promarkers. I’ve popped it inside a little frame that I painted white, glittered and then inked. I’m also loving frames at the moment and can’t get enough of them.

Make sure you buzz over to Crafty Boots and see what the rest of the DT have been up to. We’d love it if you joined in with our challenge and you have a whole fortnight to share your butterfly/bee creations with us.

Thanks for buzzing by.

  1. I was so pleased to read that I was not the only one struggling to come up with the right design for this Challenge. I think it is because we both wanted to make something rather special and you have clearly achieved goal.

Lovely layering, beautiful papers and I adore your bumble bee, you even managed to include some glitter.

I hope you have a lovely day.

    Dionne xx

    • Thank you 🙂 I think you’re probably right. Thing is, ever since I’ve not been able to stop with bees and butterflies!! xx

  2. I just love this card, Lisette!! I love all the layers and the colors and the way the bow and the flowers echo the colors in the papers. Once again, your attention to detail is wonderful–the white glittered frame, the little paper strips from the border on the paper, and the white doily edges all really add to the overall effect of this lovely piece. What a great result for something that was off to a tough start!!

    • Hey Roberta – how’s you? Are you back from your trip – I’ve missed you and have been wondering how you’ve been getting on. Thank you for your kind comments. You will see as the week goes on that this project clearly unlocked the seal on bees and butterflies as, since my crafty block before completing this card, I’m struggling to stop making things feature them. 🙂

  3. I know what you mean about cutting into gorgeous papers, just want to keep them to look at and touch. Silly but that’s way us paper crafters are I guess.
Your card is so beautiful, I keep looking at it to see all the different little pretties you’ve added, nobody can make pretties like you do. Have to print this out so I can refer back to it when I need some super inspiration. So glad you shared your card with us. Happy days
It’s Memorial day here and it’s finally a pretty day, since Thursday we’ve had rain, chilly, yukky. But at least we have a pretty day today, no complaints.

    • Thank you – and you’re right, using papers is just not what we crafters do 🙂 They always say by two!!! Hope you had a good Memorial Day – do you do something special on that day?

  4. This is a pretty card, I think Mr. Beez should buy it and give it to you for birthday too! Love the color combo too. ~Diane

    • Thank you – you’ll see that pink crop up in my new GG projects! I did try to sell him the card and then he realised it was one I had made and withdrew from the offer 🙂

    • Thank you Margaret – this is a favourite of mine! I have to confess I ordered another pad of the paper as I felt a bit queasy having used so much here 🙂

I really appreciate it when people take time to leave a comment, thank you so much for doing so :)
