Bee on a bottle

I always love it when I finally get to make a project I’ve been wanting to do for ages. Any of you that, like me, live in the world of Pinterest will probably have boards of inspiration that make up your “to do” list. I’ve been hanging on to this old perfume bottle for ages in the hope of giving it a little makeover something like this:

P1050334Being Monday, you will already have guessed that the lovely bee image is one from The Graphics Fairy. The bottle has been covered with the gauze/cheesecloth that I have been using a lot of yesterday. It attaches so easily, using PVA, and I always coat it with PVA afterwards so it’s a bit like a fabric papier mache (fabric mache???). Because I only have a honey coloured material, I gave it a coat of white acrylic paint.

I gave the image a paint of crackle glaze and then framed it with some beautiful white crochet lace from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I played with adding black gems and diamante gems but in the end decided against both. Maybe next time!

P1050333To decorate the top of the bottle I wrapped seam binding around the neck and added a bow. The stopper had a nice square edge which made it easy to attach more lace. Finishing touches were a little paper rose and a big pearly embellishment.

The finishing touches were a silver crown, for the Queen Bee, and a little cluster of paper roses.

I’d love to do another one of these, but I don’t seem to get through perfume that often. I loved the fragrance that was in this bottle but they seem to have stopped making it!

  1. How very opulent and the return of your bees! Wonderful design, you really do excel at the altered objects.

I love the little crown, how fabulous.
