Yep, I’m still banging on about the weather in true British fashion!! After my various soakings the week before last I thought that was it. Oh no, Mother Nature had other ideas. Having got to the end of my big work assignment, the final task was to unload the van and pack everything away. This is not my favourite task at the best of times so imagine how thrilled I was to be part way through, with stuff all over the drive, to have the heavens open! If you live in the UK it won’t surprise you to know that up until that point it had been beautifully sunny. I had to quickly shove everything back in the van until it stopped, which thankfully wasn’t after too long.
So today’s post is part inspired by all that shenanigans and the Travis song that always pops into my head when I’m getting drenched! It also just so happens that the challenge theme over at the Stampotique Designer’s Challenge Blog, chosen by the lovely Arwen, is “Nature – no humans or animals.” I have made a chunky ATC:
Before the rain inspiration stuck, I had a long debate about whether I could use a bee or not, but decided in the end to err on the side of caution and stick faithfully to the brief. I covered a chunky, ATC sized, wooden block with card that I had first coloured. I had given the card a wash of Broken China Distress Stain and then spritzed water through a stencil to bleach some of the stain out. Next, using the same stencil, I added layers of colour with the appropriately named Stormy Skies followed by Mermaid Lagoon.
I used the large sunflower stamp on the front and then added Magda’s raindrops. I stamped extra raindrops onto some spare card, cut them out and stuck them on the front. The sunflower was coloured using the new Distress Crayons and some extra doodling before being paper pieced over the original stamping.
I opted to add some glossy accents over the raindrops and was so glad I did as it just lifted the whole thing.
To finish it all off I created a little cloud using one of Magda’s little speech bubble from her Dog with Cat digital stamps.
Now today looks like it’s going to be a sunny one, but after my recent experiences you won’t catch me going anywhere without a coat!!
Thanks for buzzing by.
