Breaking out the new supplies

Craft packages ordered =1, craft packages received =2

We had a fantastic afternoon/evening at our friends wedding yesterday. The weather was superb, but the ceremony and celebrations were amazing. My tissues came out when the bridal party’s entrance music started and stayed out for most of the day. As guests we were thoroughly spoiled from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I even got to sit at the same table as Dame Kelly Holmes, how cool is that? As we were leaving Jo, the bride, presented me with one of the table floral arrangements:

When she explained why I’m afraid that tipped me over the edge and out came the tissues again!

So on to today’s post. You can guess from the title I have opened up one of my recent craft packages received. You may have caught the recent Create and Craft show featuring Hels Sheridan where she demonstrated some fab products from Creative Expressions. If you haven’t seen them, buzz on over to her blog as there are fabulous samples and tutorials. My piece has been inspired by what she has been up to:

The backing is a piece of corrugated cardboard with some of the top layer torn back to reveal the corrugations. I went over it with some of the Creative Expressions white texture paste and then had to be patient whilst I left it to dry. Once done, I painted over it with two different blue acrylic paints, rubbing some off with kitchen roll so that the white was exposed in places.

I’ve gone around the edge wand over some of the background with a black Adirondack paint dabber. Finally, I used a smidge of silver gilding wax to add highlights. The flowers and swirls were cut using Spellbinders dies. The flowers were coloured up with Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and Broken China distress inks; the spots were added with a black pen. The flourishes were cut from black card and I buffed them with a little more gilding wax.

P1040481The word dream, which is the Sunday Stampers challenge theme for this week, was stamped onto white card and edged in black ink. The bluebird is a Dresden scrap from my stash.

This was a lot of fun to do, but I need to practise a lot more with the texture paste. Certainly I need to invest in a palette knife as using a ruler was not that easy.

One great thing about going to a wedding on a Friday is that you still have the whole weekend ahead of you. I hope you enjoy yours.

  1. Someone has been a busy girl, playing with her new stash and just look at what you have done. Wonderful effect on the background and I love the spots on the flowers.
