Another day, another challenge – Crafty Boots Postcards

Craft packages ordered = 4 (V.V BAD), Craft Packages received = 0 AND yesterday I received a catalogue from Panduro Hobby. Is this some kind of torture? It’s bad enough when I visit their website but to have all their craftylicious goodies in one handy, keep it by my side, catalogue that’s so tough.

How lucky to come across another blog challenge that I felt capable of tackling.  I’m not sure how I discovered Crafty Boots but am so glad that I did because what a great challenge they have running this fortnight. The theme is Postcards. Buzz by and take a look.

I don’t quite know where the whole idea for my piece came from, it just sort of happened. Naturally I turned to The Graphics Fairy for some suitable images.

I’d originally intended to keep the shells as a frame and overlay it on top of the little girl. I couldn’t quite get it to be the right size so that the little snail didn’t get covered up or the whole thing didn’t become too large. Instead, I decided to make a frame out of chipboard which I then painted in a turquoise blue. I found some lovely angelina fibres, in a similar blue, that were already fused and attached this to the frame. Now it looked good and had a real “feel of the sea” but it didn’t go with the image. I shall save that for another day.

Another frame made, painted with the same blue, but this time I over stamped with text using a hazel brown ink. I also distressed the edges slightly. I cut individual shells from the postcard frame and glittered these with crystal clear glitter. Once dry I attached the shells to the frame together with the banner which I had also rubbed with the hazel ink. The letters were printed out on my computer and dabbed with some Broken China distress ink. The little pearls were the final touch before assembling frame and picture (painted with distress stains and watercolour pencils).

As you know, I’m not very good at submitting one piece for multiple challenges so I probably won’t enter this for Brag Monday. However, I AM good at entering more than one piece for the SAME challenge.   As it happens I do have another postcard themed idea…
